What were effective approaches for you?

Jess Koch: Yes, back in February/March 2020. The beginning of the end or welcome to the future. At HR Pioneers, we were a decentralized consultancy that saw itself as being on-site with the customer almost 100% of the time. That was also what was desired. On both sides, the irrefutable opinion prevailed that the whole thing could only be done on-site. And then, literally nothing worked anymore. All of a sudden, everything came to a standstill. Most of our consulting assignments were paused and we consultants stayed at home for the time being. Since we could no longer be on-site with the customer and were therefore without work, i.e. consulting assignments, there were only two options: wait it out or roll up our sleeves and make sure we use the opportunity to find out how to adapt to the new situation.

You describe very aptly

A situation that many people will remember well – and found to be somewhat surreal. How did you deal with it?

In just a few weeks, we managed to pack all of our consulting vk data expertise into digital tools. And after just a few months, we were able to offer our customers appropriate solutions. Since customers also realized that things had to move on, we were quickly able to provide benefits for our customers again with our old activities. But with the difference that we were no longer on site with them. That was new for both sides and felt strange at first. Something was missing. But over time, that changed, and we and our customers had arrived at the new normal. And now some want to go back and have more on-site advice. But many also recognize the advantages and are looking more closely at what should be delivered digitally and what should be delivered analogue.

Looking back, what characterizes

these first months was an incredible curiosity and openness to try things out. Together with our customers, we learned an immense amount in the first few months. In a certain way, there was a mobile lead sense of optimism. Together, we bravely entered this new territory, gained experience, exchanged ideas and developed things further. That was really fun – despite all the bad things that characterized these first Corona months. We were all forced to change, we all had to be brave and we gave each other the strength and confidence that we would manage it.

I think it will continue. We are facing the third Corona autumn or winter, and on top of that, Russia’s war of aggression is now taking things to the next level. And then there is man-made climate change, the effects of which will only hit us hard in a few years.
